Description
Phaseolus vulgaris
These tender, tasty bush beans are a delight to grow and harvest and a great heirloom variety for growing in children’s gardens, as the deep purple pods are easy to see and watch as they grow. Royal Purple Bean plants are sturdy with good vigor in cool soils and produce tender, meaty and crisp beans. The slightly curved, purple pods turn green while cooking. This open-pollinated variety is excellent for freezing and canning or fresh right out of the garden.
Beans enrich the soil with nitrogen for heavy nitrogen users like corn and grains. Plant beans with carrots, celery, chards, corn, eggplant, peas, potatoes, brassica (mustard family), beets, radishes, strawberries and cucumbers. Keep your beans away from alliums.
