Pacific Aster (Symphyotrichum chilense)
This native species is seen along the coast and in meadows of the western states of North America. Pacific Aster is a slow-growing species and is moderately drought tolerant and has a high salinity tolerance.
Also known as Aster chilense
As a late-season source of pollen and nectar, asters provide the last opportunity for many bee colonies to forage. Aster pollen serves as an important late-season food source for various bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, including the next generation of bumblebee queens foraging before entering winter dormancy.
