Description
Prairie Aster is a tough, drought-tolerant native annual to short-lived perennial that produces a spectacular display of lavender-to-violet, daisy-like flowers with bright golden centers. Blooming from spring through summer, and often longer with favorable moisture, its vibrant blossoms create a striking contrast against the plant’s finely divided, gray-green foliage.
Native to the Great Plains and southwestern United States, including Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and neighboring states, Tahoka Daisy naturally occurs in prairies, open plains, roadsides, and dry grasslands. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, performing exceptionally well in sandy, gravelly, rocky, or clay soils. Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant and well-adapted to challenging growing conditions.
Growing 1 to 3 feet tall, Tahoka Daisy is an excellent choice for wildflower meadows, native plant gardens, xeriscapes, roadside plantings, and pollinator habitats. Its abundant nectar-rich blooms attract native bees, honeybees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators throughout the growing season. Easy to establish and low maintenance, this resilient wildflower provides long-lasting color, supports pollinator populations, and adds natural beauty to dry landscapes where many other flowers struggle to thrive.
