This heirloom is a vigorous, rust-resistant, pole type that is adaptable to many parts of the country. An old-fashioned favorite producing plenty of 8-9 in., smooth, round, meaty pods that are dark blue-green. They are delicious eaten fresh and unbeatable for canning and freezing.

Beans enrich the soil with nitrogen for heavy nitrogen users like corn and grains. Plant beans with carrots, celery, chards, corn, eggplant, peas, potatoes, brassica (mustard family), beets, radishes, strawberries and cucumbers. Keep your beans away from alliums.
