Lemon Basil is a heat loving heirloom, originally native to India, that has become an important culinary addition to many cuisines around the world. Intense, citrusy aroma and flavor characterize this basil.
Lemon Basil is great for containers and more heat tolerant than other basils. Use it as a fresh herb in salads, fish and vegetable dishes or dry the leaves for later use.
Plant basil with your tomatoes and it will improve the growth and flavor of your tomatoes. Basil also does well with peppers, oregano, asparagus and petunias. This herb has been known to repel flies and mosquitoes but should not be planted next to rue or sage.

Planting and Care Directly sow into the garden when the soil temperatures are above 70 degrees, or start indoors and transplant to the garden or container. Intersperse Lemon Basil plants among the vegetables in the garden to repel unwanted insects and to improve tomato growth and flavor. Germination temperature: 70-85 deg. Keep soil moist through germination, then water regularly. Allow good air circulation between plants and protect from wind.
Harvest Pinching off the flower buds as they form will encourage branching and leaf production. Use the leaves as needed or remove entire branches but no more than 20 percent of the plant at any one time.
Your Health Lemon Basil is a good source of Vitamin K, iron, and cell protecting flavonoids and the volitile oils are thought to have anti-bacterial properties.
