Description
Dark Green Zucchini Squash
Cucurbita pepo
This summer squash produces straight, slender fruits with firm, flavorful, nearly white flesh. The plants are easy to grow, mature quickly and produce many low-calorie, versatile fruits. These delicately flavored squashes can be used raw for dips or salads or steamed, fried, baked and stuffed. They freeze well when sliced or cubed.
Beans, corn, icicle radishes, cucumber, melon, mint, onions and pumpkins are great companion plants for squash. Marigolds, nasturtium and oregano will provide some pest protection. Squash and potatoes should not be planted together.
